Hazel wands put to traditional use
"Hazel wands from the DRA coppicing at the Dorothy Elmhirst playing field have been put to a traditional use in Totnes.
Nick Maxwell, with the help of Jeremy Weiss, of the Devon Rural Skills Trust, weaved a fence for his Totnes garden.
Two dozen bundles harvested from the Bidwell Brook copse over last winter were used. In return a donation to the DRA play park fund was made by Nick: thank you for that.
Coppicing is due to restart this autumn and anyone who wants green hazel logs or hazel wands should contact the DRA - details on this site."
